"Art’s essence is its ability to engage us fully in body, emotions, mind and spirit, to create beauty and meaning, to cultivate imaginative empathy, to disturb the peace, to enable grief in the face of loss and hope in the face of grief. Trying to explain or demonstrate this with numbers is like trying to describe a rainbow without mentioning color.” – Arlene Goldbard

  1. Thank you so much for posting this quote, Stephanie. I keep thinking about the pieces that specifically talk about BC's industrial past, timber and cooperage and railyards and how more contemporary pieces seem to deal with light, or use light as a material in the work and if that means anything for the future. If we're moving past an information age, sort of how the falsecreek area was moving past an industrial one. I feel like this quote is very fitting. Thanks!!
